Strength Training

After a long body-fitness drought precipitated by breaking my foot a year or so ago*, I am finally getting back into a fitness routine. In part, I have my new employer to thank: they pick up 100% of the monthly fee. I did my first major workout this morning. The club I’ve joined is quite small and personal. Their equipment is all new, mostly Life Fitness machines and free weights.

Life FitnessA big part of keeping one’s RealAge down is maintaining good muscle and bone condition. Strength training is the key, I believe. This round, I intend to keep much better track of my progress. Many years ago, I had an excellent personal trainer who introduced me to the benefits of record-keeping. I am going to start again. In keeping with the personal-record-keeping mission of this journal, I think I may work out a way to meaningfully post and track results here. I’m learning about how to create a better strength-training journal.

*I’m terrible at re-creating time-lines from memory. I can’t remember if my broken foot was 6 months ago or 16. If I had been journaling back then, it would be a simple matter search for “foot” and quickly find the date. I am so time-line challenged I believe I would truly benefit from an online tool for visualizing my personal time-line. This would be a great application for WPF. Maybe it should become my next software sandbox.
